Friday the Bears traveled up to Bothell to play their 2nd consecutive playoff appearance where they would fall 52-14 on a cold and windy night.
The Bears clinched their playoff game after winning their 25-yard drive vs. Bethel two weeks ago and traveled up to Bothell and play at Pop Keeney Stadium last Friday. The Trench would have a surprising amount of fans in attendance as the drive to Bothell took up to 2 hours and they would give the Bears a nice home crowd feeling.
Bothell would start the game with 31 unanswered points until the end of the second quarter where the Bears would score a touchdown off of a Harper Hejtmanek touchdown. The offense was off to a slow start but would start the 2nd half with a dominant drive with Hejtmanek scoring his second touchdown. Junior Hunter Liberty would have a great game with 8 tackles on the night with some nice TFL’s (Tackle for Loss).
A comeback looked like it had materialized but that would be it for the Bears offense and the game’s final score was 52-14,` as the Bears were defeated.
Junior Kyle Turenne was asked what to look forward to for next season “Look forward to us being a better team, look forward for us to be able to identify our mistakes, look forward to a better team and season.” This 2024 campaign has given the football program a lot of hope for the future of Oly Football. Turenne was also asked what the team’s next season holds. “Expect us to give it our all, we’re going to leave everything on the field and there to be better teamwork, and look more like a whole team.” The team has a lot to look forward to for next season, as the new team will give fans an exciting season as new players fill the senior roles.
Christopher Mondau, a junior who was the starting safety for the entire football season was asked what is the Bears’ goal for next season. “The goal for next season is to improve and be better, and focus on the next steps to become a better team.” A big message for next season is that the team will improve by taking the proper steps during the off-season. Mondau was asked what’s the team’s mentality for next season. “The mentality for next season is just to be who we are and be able to build off this past season. Also, move to a deeper playoff run and win the 4A state championship.” The team’s mentality is a great one, one that is to bring home a 4A state championship to Olympia High School.
The team’s season didn’t end pretty but next year looks like another amazing season after both Turenne and Mondau have confidence that the team will improve and win a 4A state championship.
