On October 25th, the Olympia Girls Soccer team celebrated Senior Night with a 4-0 win against Emerald Ridge. It was an emotional night for many players and fans, as they watched the seniors play their last home game at Jack Trice Stadium. The team had an impressive season, completing the season with an overall record of 10-5-3.
In an interview with one of the players, Senior Claudia Wilson commented on her favorite memories from her high school career. She described a nail-biting match against Bellarmine High School in 2021, in which the bears scored a victory after a crucial penalty kick save by Wilson, and 2 more goals by the bears to secure the win. Annabella Larson, another senior on the team, points out that this is her favorite memory as well.
Wilson then reflected on how she struggles with the end of her high school career: “It’s sad moving on and taking the next step. [She has] played soccer all [her] life, so being without it every day is going to be hard.” Wilson also mentioned that she battles with leaving behind her teammates that she has formed strong bonds with, and she is grateful for the friendships that the program has given her.
Larson, who has played soccer for 14 years, stated that her favorite part of Senior Night was “having all of [her] friends and family there to celebrate an amazing four years.” Larson wanted her team to know that she is “super proud of this team and what [they] accomplished during the season.”
Larson also shared some advice for upcoming athletes: “Always work hard and give it your all, even if you aren’t feeling it that day. Live in the moment and cherish every moment you have with your teammates.” She will attend a four-year university next fall, where she plans on furthering her soccer career
Senior Night was a time to reflect on the bittersweet end to the season, but also highlighted the exciting future for these student athletes as they take on college in the years to come.
