White Pass, about 2.5 hours from Olympia, offers a convenient drive for students. Although Crystal Mountain is slightly closer, students like Lila Owens find the extra 30 minutes worthwhile. “White Pass is a better location with more advanced slopes,” Owens said, highlighting its appeal for all skill levels. Compared to Mount Baker’s four-hour drive, White Pass is the more practical choice for a quick, rewarding ski trip.
Affordability plays a significant role in White Pass’s popularity. A full-day adult lift ticket at White Pass costs $85 during weekdays, compared to Crystal Mountain’s weekday rate of $129. Junior tickets (ages 9–16) are $57 at White Pass, whereas Crystal charges $117 for similar age groups. This substantial price difference makes White Pass an accessible option for students on a budget, allowing them to enjoy the slopes without breaking the bank.
Junior Elliot Arvidson, a beginner skier, finds White Pass welcoming and student-friendly. “My favorite spot is White Pass. Although I’ve only been a few times, I like how it’s close and beginner-friendly,” he shared.
