The 2025 GRAMMYs was surely a night to remember, from the surprising wins (and snubs) to the cops ushering Bianca Censori and Kanye West off the premises after attempting to pull off a more-than-surprising fashion stunt. Following such a crazy show, fans at OHS had a lot to say about it.
Though some praised the GRAMMYs, many were unhappy with the results. One of the biggest gripes from OHS students who watched the GRAMMYs was that Beyoncé swept the categories with her lukewarm album, expressing that it felt undeserved. Sophomore Emma Rae showed her frustration, exclaiming that “Billie [Eilish] should have won Album Of The Year, Beyoncé shouldn’t have won for a ‘country’ album.”
Rae also indicated that Beyonce didn’t deserve her wins because she wasn’t a country artist, calling the album a “parody” album. Beyoncé’s musical background consists of mostly pop, and though Cowboy Carter was somewhat of a hit when it came out, it was only relevant for around a week before its popularity fizzled out. Sophomore Sophina Wheeler shared her sentiment towards the predicament, scolding the academy for Beyoncé’s win because she “is not a country music artist, Billie was robbed.”
Though Billie Eilish’s snub was no doubt the biggest disappointment to the majority, other students came out and shared their opinions. Junior Joshua Wang thinks that “Charli XCX got snubbed,” and senior Emma Reece even went lengths to say that “Lana [Del Rey is] always snubbed.”
On the contrary, quite a few students were content with the GRAMMYs results, or were willing to look past the controversial wins for others that seemed fitting. Freshman Maddox Cruz is happy with the results of best rap album, “Doechii won and that’s the best thing that happened.” This makes her the third woman ever to win the prestigious award, officially making GRAMMY history.
The GRAMMYs isn’t just about the music, it’s also known for the bold fashion statements that the artists display each year. Though it seemed that this year, “bold” is an understatement- Kanye West attended with his wife, Bianca Censori, and things took a turn for the worst when she flashed the cameras after taking off her thick black coat, revealing practically nothing underneath. Later, the cops escorted her and West out of the event on charges of public indecency.
One of the biggest years in music somehow resulted in an overall apathetic GRAMMYs with great performances, but seemingly stolen trophies from those who deserved it. Fans can only hope better for next year as all the big music artists flood to their studios once again, hoping not only to feed their fans, but their own craving for a GRAMMY.
