Feminism Club is one of the oldest and most active student groups here at OHS. Currently led by seniors Evie Penrod, Nell McGuigan and Clara Randall, the club focuses on bringing accessible action to OHS.
The club aims to provide a safe space for discussions and opinions regarding feminism and broader current issues to be shared. “We want to make real change at our school and in our community,” Penrod emphasized.
When McGuigan first began leading the club, she was “excited to bring students’ voices from within the club and hear how others feel about female empowerment.”
Similarly, Penrod has “always been a feminist” and felt aligned with the club’s values, which are some reasons for her continued involvement.
Her favorite memory is hosting Feminism Club’s first city-wide walkout following the overturning of Roe v. Wade in 2022. “It was great to see how many people cared and wanted to take part in collective action,” she recalled.
Penrod continued, “We like to do engaging activities such as making posters or hosting group discussions.”
Any students interested in getting involved with Feminism Club can join in on their meetings during Bear Time A in Room 904.
